妻友社区's economic impact more than $603 million

妻友社区 (GGC) contributed more than $603 million to the economy of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metropolitan area during fiscal year 2023, according to an released by the University System of Georgia (USG).

That鈥檚 $81.9 million dollars, or about 16% more than the previous year.

Including its capital outlay for construction projects such as its new Convocation Center that will open later this year, GGC has generated more than $6.4 billion in cumulative economic impact since 2007, the first year the college has been included in the study.

鈥淲e are proud to be an economic driver in Gwinnett and the region, said Dr. Jann L. Joseph, president of GGC. 鈥淭he degrees we offer and the faculty and staff we employ play an important part in the training and education of our students. That results in graduating students who become the professionals our region needs to continue to grow and prosper.鈥

This year鈥檚 report indicates that GGC is responsible for the creation of 3,769 jobs, of which 763 are on campus and 3,006 in the community. In addition, the college now has more than 13,000 alumni who are living, working and serving in Gwinnett County, Georgia and beyond.

鈥淭his past May, we graduated over 900 students, the largest class in our history,鈥 said Joseph. 鈥淭he impact our alumni make starts in our community and expands to our state and globally.鈥

The study was commissioned by the USG and conducted by the University of Georgia鈥檚 Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business. It analyzed data collected from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, to measure the USG鈥檚 economic impact on the state.
