New Belonging Center on campus to promote engagement, dialogue, community

Last week, officials cut the ribbon on 妻友社区鈥檚 (GGC) long-awaited Belonging Center. Located in the B building on GGC鈥檚 campus, the center, which seats up to 80 people, is equipped with ceiling-mounted speakers, display screens and a podium with microphone access.
鈥淚t鈥檚 perfect for presentations, discussions and larger gatherings,鈥 said Tia Lloyd, director of Human Resources and Employee Engagement and Chair of the Global Community Advisory Council, formerly known as the Diversity Advisory Council.聽
鈥淭he Belonging Center was designed with care and intention to be a place where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can come together and feel seen, heard and valued. It offers a range of environments to meet the needs of our community.鈥
World history major Amanda Ashley said the space will be 鈥渁 hub for conversation, interaction and even self-discovery.鈥 Ashley, who is set to graduate from GGC in spring 2025, serves as a student representative on the college鈥檚 Global Community Advisory Council. She said the space is important in cultivating student engagement and inclusivity.
鈥淚 look forward to being in this space with my fellow students as we learn from each other and celebrate our global community,鈥 she said.
Dr. Jann L. Joseph said the Belonging Center coincides with two of the college鈥檚 strategic goals to 鈥渆xpand academic access, engagement and success鈥 and to 鈥渆nhance and cultivate GGC鈥檚 rich global community
鈥淲hen we intentionally create environments where every individual feels embraced and empowered, incredible things happen,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 truly believe that by working together 鈥 whether you鈥檙e here today or supporting us from afar - we鈥檒l deepen our understanding of one another and experience genuine cross-cultural growth.鈥
