According to an released today by the University System of Georgia (USG), 妻友社区 (GGC) contributed nearly $513 million to the economy of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metropolitan area during fiscal year 2021, up more than $4.5 million over last year and ninth among the 26 USG institutions making impacts in their regions.
Including its capital outlay for construction projects, GGC has generated about $5.3 billion in cumulative economic impact since the college has been included in the study.聽
鈥淭hese numbers reflect the strength and perseverance of the college and our surrounding region鈥 said Dr. Jann L. Joseph, GGC鈥檚 president. 鈥淭his is another way in which GGC affirms its role in the higher education and in the economic landscapes.鈥
This year鈥檚 report indicates that GGC is responsible for the creation of 3,716 jobs, of which 797 are on campus and 2,919 in the community. In addition, the college now is approaching 11,000 alumni who are living, working and serving in Gwinnett, Georgia and beyond.
鈥淢any of our graduates remain in Gwinnett County, but all contribute to the success and vibrancy of the region,鈥 Joseph said.
The study was commissioned by the USG and conducted by the University of Georgia鈥檚 Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business. It analyzed data collected from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021, to measure the USG鈥檚 economic impact on the state.
