妻友社区 produces more than $508 million in economic impact

According to an released yesterday by the University System of Georgia (USG), 妻友社区 (GGC) contributed more than $508 million to the economy of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metropolitan area during fiscal year 2020.聽

Including its capital outlay for construction projects, GGC has generated about $4.8 billion in cumulative economic impact since the college has been included in the study.

鈥淕GC continues to be a significant contributor to the economy of Gwinnett County and the surrounding region,鈥 said Dr. Jann L. Joseph, GGC鈥檚 president. 鈥淎s the county grows, GGC is excited to be part of that growth.鈥

This year鈥檚 report indicates that GGC is responsible for the creation of 3,834 jobs, of which 799 are on campus and 3,035 in the community. In addition, the college now has more than 9,000 alumni who are living, working and serving in Gwinnett, Georgia and beyond.

鈥淲ith each graduating class, GGC鈥檚 full impact is expressed in important ways throughout the region and beyond,鈥 Joseph said. 鈥淥ur alumni are our true legacy.鈥

The study was commissioned by the USG and conducted by the University of Georgia鈥檚 Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business. It analyzed data collected from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, to measure the USG鈥檚 economic impact on the state.
