For the greater good: 妻友社区 students give back in service day event

Service is one of the four pillars of 妻友社区 (GGC), and that means a lot to the 26 GGC students who spent their time Saturday volunteering for the greater good during the college鈥檚 service day event.

Working at the Lawrenceville Co-op, the GGC Microfarm and the GGC Care Pantry, students learned about the inner workings of the areas where they were assigned. And they learned something more.

鈥淚t鈥檚 about the opportunity to give back to the community, to engage in something different from what you already know and challenge students to view other perspectives,鈥 said JP Peters, GGC鈥檚 assistant director of Community Engagement and Service, who spearheaded the service day event.

Peters said returning students were excited at the opportunity to volunteer. Students new to GGC were also excited to know that a care pantry and a microfarm existed at the college.

Future volunteer opportunities, Peters said, will happen in October when GGC will collaborate with Volunteer Gwinnett during the organization鈥檚 Great Days of Service.

GGC鈥檚 service event was held in conjunction with the college鈥檚 Grizzly Welcome 2023, which featured 10 days of events welcoming new and returning students.
